Race fans young and old will be excited to learn that the 2016 No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS Show Car, a carbon copy of those wheeled by NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., will be on display at Steve Lewis Auto Body on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at Centre 200 on Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the  32nd Annual IWK Telethon.
Before its retirement the car saw competition in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway in the All-Star Race, and at Pocono Speedway.
The show car appearances in Sydney on June 4 and 5 will also celebrate the 10th annual IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body, set for July 16 at Riverside International Speedway near Antigonish, an event that has helped raise awareness and more than $250,000 for the IWK Foundation since 2007.
Also on hand will be the 2016 Cat Car for Kids pro stock race car that two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Matt Crafton will drive in the IWK 250. Fans can have their pictures taken with both cars as well as sign their name on the hood of the Cat Car for Kids. Steve Lewis Auto Body’s Official 2016 IWK 250 Pace Cars will also be on display and donations in support of the IWK Health Centre will be accepted with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the IWK. Those who attend the event at Steve Lewis Auto Body on June 4 will also see hot rods and muscle cars.
Steve Lewis Auto Body, located at 61 Beech Street, uses Axalta Coating Systems’ Cromaxâ„¢ paint brand and is one of the largest shops of its type in the Maritimes, and proud to be celebrating 41 years of quality auto service in 2016. Steve and Marie Lewis are long-time supporters of the IWK Foundation and, in 2007, elevated their commitment  to the region’s largest women and children’s hospital by co-founding the IWK 250 and sponsoring the biggest annual summer sporting event in the Maritimes, subsequently known as the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body.
Since then the event has become widely known as one of the most exciting stock car races in Canada attracting top NASCAR drivers who test the talents of top regional racers. Only one NASCAR driver, Regan Smith, has visited Victory Circle at the IWK 250, doing so in 2008. Others who have tried include Aric Almirola, Marcos Ambrose, Ricky Craven, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and David Reutimann.
The 32nd annual IWK Telethon for Children on CTV will broadcast live June 4 and 5. The IWK cares for countless Maritime children each year. Funds raised for this event will help support the IWK Health Centre’s most urgent care needs – areas which could include research, improved facilities and the purchasing of vital pieces of equipment.
The IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body is a two-day event starting July 15 with the Highland Building Centres 100 for the NAPA Sportsman Series along with a championship points event for the Upper Clements Park Maritime League of Legends. On July 16 the cars and stars of IWK 250 are centre-stage, all vying for the checkered flag and all the accolades that come with being an IWK 250 champion.
The 2016 season at Riverside gets underway June 11 with the Ron MacGillivray Chev Buick 150 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour along with the Highland Building Centres 50 for the Napa Sportsman Series. Advance tickets for the Ron MacGillivray 150 are now available at www.riversidespeedway.ca.
